Materials & Craftsmanship

Built from real materials, made to last

Every product in the Momentum Mechanisms range is chosen with materials and build quality at the front of our mind. We don't stock anything we wouldn't be happy to give as a gift ourselves.

Wood — the heart of everything we sell

Our solid wood marble runs are crafted from premium hardwoods — beech, oak and walnut depending on the range. These are not plywood or MDF. The grain is real, the weight is satisfying, and the finish improves with handling over time.

Our laser-cut kits — ROKR, WoodTrick and Ugears — use precision-cut birch plywood. Birch is chosen for its stability, clean cut edges and smooth surface, which allows the tight-tolerance interlocking joints that make these kits assemble without glue.

Laser cutting — precision you can feel

Every laser-cut kit in our range is manufactured to tolerances measured in fractions of a millimetre. When a piece clicks into place, it should feel positive and secure — not loose, not forced. That precision is the difference between a satisfying build and a frustrating one.

No glue required

The majority of kits in our range are designed to assemble without adhesive. The joints are engineered to hold. This means the build process is cleaner, the finished model is more structurally honest, and in many cases the kit can be disassembled and rebuilt.

Finishing and detail

Our solid wood runs arrive either fully assembled or as a kit, depending on the product. Laser-cut kit surfaces are smooth to the touch straight from the box. Some builders choose to sand lightly and apply a natural wood oil — this deepens the grain and adds a beautiful warmth to the finished piece.

Sustainability

We source from suppliers who use responsibly managed timber. Birch plywood used in laser-cut kits is typically sourced from managed European forests. We are committed to stocking products built to last — because a product that lasts is always more sustainable than one that doesn't.
